Lone Echo II

Released in the Fall of 2021, Lone Echo II is the sequel to the dramatic VR space exploration game.
I picked up the project exactly where the last UI designers had left it. I had to discover all the necessary files and stay true to the existing style guide all while hitting set timelines.

In-Game Fiction User Interface (FUI)

As part of the adventure and immersion into the world players can view terminals throughout the space station with each telling a story. Key terminals may provide a hint about gameplay, others add to character’s backstory, and some simply are set dressing. The FUI screens I designed were created in collaboration with the level designer and game writer to establish the proper context and fiction needed to make the terminal feel “real”.

Arm Computer

In the original game the Arm Computer allows the player to track objectives, choose dialogue or inspect objects for more detail. In Lone Echo II the Arm Computer receives additional functionality as an inventory for all of Jack’s tools and upgrade tracker, but retains it’s original DOS-like visual design. Taking cues from computer BIOS text I used ASCII art to divide, emphasize, and add a signature flourish in the footer.
